Southeast Asian Studies Collection Gets Boost
UCR’s libraries will strengthen their Southeast Asian Studies collections through a three-year, $150,000 grant.

The Henry Luce Foundation grant will support the Southeast Asia Texts, Rituals and Performance collection, which focuses on materials from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor, Vietnam and the Philippines. The funds will also help UC Riverside Libraries establish the program with the Library of Congress and start evaluating and purchasing resources such as documents, journals, and multimedia materials. Faculty will also be asked to identify resources as they travel through Southeast Asia.

Approximately one-fifth of UCR’s undergraduates have family or ethnic ties with the region, which has a population of about 500 million.
